The company SlovTan is located in the city of Liptovský Mikuláš, Liptov region, Slovakia. The Liptov region lies in the north of Slovakia, in a wide valley, between the Low and the High Tatras.

Leather production in the Liptov region has a long-time tradition covering about 370 years. Since 1997 leathers have been processed here by the German company Schafstall Group. In 2005, SlovTan Contract Tannery was established which is a member the Schafstall Group. About 240 employees process 75 metric tons of raw cow-hides daily.

Currently, SlovTan is the only company in Slovakia which has the manufacturing programme covering the entire process from entry of raw hides up to the dispatch of finished leathers.
